OATA AGM 2018 Registration

The OATA Board is excited to welcome you to celebrate 40 years of serving the Art Therapy community at the 2018 Retreat and AGM “Celebrating Our Past – Creating Our Future”. We hope art therapy practitioners and students will join with pioneers in the field, friends and colleagues to renew friendships, enjoy photos of events and programs past and present, and to share what is new in the field.

Linda Nicholas MA, DipEd, OATR (HLM), ATR, will explore lessons learned from the past which will give us direction into the future. Linda is a registered Honorary Life Member with the Ontario Art Therapy Association and a Registered Member of the American Art Therapy Association. She has degrees in psychology and BioMedical Ethics as well as a teaching Diploma from the UK. Linda received four years of Art Therapy training with Irene Dewdney while working as a therapist in the late seventies at the Western Ontario Therapeutic Community Hostel in London, Ontario. Irene, Linda, and Jacqueline Morrissey collaborated on writing a text on the Dewdney’s contribution to Art Therapy “Drawing Out The Self”.

At the end of the 1970’s Irene and Linda worked together, with others, to establish the OATA. Linda has been president twice and active on many committees. As well as being in private practice, over the past 30 years Linda has started up, developed and directed several ground-breaking art therapy programs including the Art Therapy Diploma program at Western.

Petrea Hansen-Adamidis DTATI, RCAT, RP, will focus on self care, now a required component for CRPO registration. A fun interactive afternoon will leave you renewed and prepared with tools to ensure you do not get lost in the flow of helping others at the risk of overlooking or putting your own feelings and needs on the back burner. In this didactic and experientially based workshop, we will explore the many ways that art-making can help us stay centered, maintain healthy boundaries, and prevent compassion fatigue.

Petrea Hansen-Adamidis has worked in the field of art therapy for over 23 years. For the past 15 years she has held the position of Expressive Arts Therapist at The Sick Kids Centre for Community Mental Health, formerly The Hincks-Dellcrest Centre, a children’s mental health, treatment, teaching and research centre. Petrea serves individuals, parent-child dyads, and families, specializing in trauma assessments and treatment. Petrea is also an art therapy supervisor and is on faculty at The Toronto Art Therapy Institute. For more information visit her website: www.arttherapist.ca

We will share the OATA Board’s accomplishments of the past year and hopes for the future.

Beth Merriam will bring news of a new art therapy program being considered at Centennial College. Exciting!

The Cambridge Mill is a beautifully restored 19th century Mill of stone and wood. The Waterfront Room overlooks the Grand River and we have a lovely luncheon planned as well as morning refreshments and afternoon cake cutting. Visit cambridgemill.ca for more information.

We welcome posters of your work or research. Please encourage your art therapy friends and early OATA members to join us for a celebration of accomplishments over the years. Bring along pictures of colleagues, examples of projects and initiatives to share.
